After painting up my Screamer Killer Carnifex I wasn't completely sure about the paint scheme, so I decided to experiment with a few alternatives on some Genestealers...
The four alternatives I decided to try are:
- bone/yellow - "control group" the same as the Carnifex
- brown skin
- brown carapace
- green carapace
|
Chaos Black primer |
|
Mournfang Brown base |
|
Zandri Dust first colour, all-over, skin and carapace respectively |
|
Ushabti Bone highlight plus Caliban Green layer |
|
Washes and highlights added plus basing finishing touches |
|
I think the green is too green but the other three all work, I think... |
Overall, I'm not displeased with any of the Genestealers though I'm not sure the green scheme is something I'd want to paint all my Tyranids in.
The single colour scheme works better with the Genestealer than the Carnifex, probably because there's no big, flat areas. With that in mind, I'm tempted to go with the plainest theme as all the models have plenty of detail apart from the Carnifex.
Let me know what you think in the comments!
I think the airbrush finish is quite nice.
ReplyDeleteI do prefer the simpler colour schemes no 1 and 3. It is ofc a personal preference but I like subtle but effective colouring.
Keep up the good work! Will be interesting to see you improve. :)
I agree that the results of #1 and #3 are best. That plus how easy #1 was to paint makes me lean towards the plain scheme the most.
DeleteI was joking when I said green. It doesn't really look right after all. I'd thought some brown or red would work, but those don't look right either.
ReplyDeleteThought of trying some grey?
Green was something I was interested in trying anyway, as I did wonder about a jungle theme that would fit Lictors very well.
DeleteI have one spare Genestealer that I was considering painting in a grey scale, similar in theme to #1 Genestealer above...
I mean grey and sand colours, maybe more of a desert/mountain camouflage combo
DeleteThe more I look at them, the more I wonder how it would look if you switched the green and sandy colours around. Putting a glossy green on the fleshy parts like the head just might work.
