Assassins - Know your weapons

With the new 40k 7th edition Ally rules you could now include Assassins in any army. I've already heard of people making a Sneaky Gitz conversion for their Ork army and there's huge potential for a Daemonic, or perhaps even Tyranid, Assassin.
However, their unique toolbox of weaponry however can take a little bit of thought...

A classic assassin, painted in my youth. He's due a repaint!

The Vindicare Assassin can choose between 3 different types of ammo for their guns Hellfire, Shield-breaker and Turbo-penetrator. Confused what you should use when? Here's a flow chart!

Most of this is obvious, it's just the breakpoint when the Shield-breaker becomes preferable that takes a minute to work out. This remains accurate even if you have Preferred Enemy for your target.
A sniper model I picked up from the budget Bones range, from Reaper Miniatures
I really like the Vindicare and the other Assassins, I hope to include them in an army at some point and they would fit perfectly with an Inquisition force I've been building.

Is anyone planning to use Assassins in your armies?

  1. Clever 2nd Ed players left enough points in the army list for any of the 3 assassins and deployed the one they wanted after their opponent had set-up - illegal in tournaments of course. I always went Vindicare because I played mainly against an Ork player who loved warbikes. Marine power armour did not love his warbikes, nor their dual auto-cannons, but the Vindicare did - you could pick the rider off the rear most warbikes, then let the movement order rules (involuntary moves before all else) and collision rules cause utter chaos as the entire squadron smashed each other up.
